Grant reopens Minnesota Discovery Center

A $1 million grant from the Iron Range Resources Board will reopen the center that features the heritage of northeastern Minnesota.

The Minnesota Discovery Center in Chisholm has a museum, research center and park on 660 acres. A nonprofit corporation which runs the facility, Ironworld Development Corp., has another $400,000 to operate the center, formerly known as Ironworld.

The development corporation could announce Friday when it will open for the year.

Cash problems closed the facility last fall. Board chairman Rich Puhek tells the Duluth News Tribune the newly-opened center will be better managed and leaner.
