A display of more than 1,000 backpacks and a flash mob of students at the University of Minnesota campus in Minneapolis will raise awareness for suicides among college and university students.
The university says in a news release that it will happen from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday in front of Coffman Memorial Union on Washington Avenue.
The 1,100 backpacks scattered around the front of the building will represent the 1,100 college students who kill themselves each year.
A student group will be passing out information during the display about student suicide and where to get help.
At 12:15 p.m. a mob of students wearing shirts in support of people with mental health problems will freeze around the exhibit for five minutes.
