Minn. Teacher of Year named this weekend

The 2010 Minnesota Teacher of the Year will be named this weekend by Education Minnesota, the state teacher's union.

The 10 finalists for this year's award were nominated by students, parents, colleagues and members of the community. The finalists will selected from 107 nominees.

The union says this year's winner will be selected by a panel of civic and business leaders. Any licensed teacher is eligible.

The winner will replace Amber Damm, a 7th- and 8th-grade English and Language Arts teacher at Clara Barton Open School in Minneapolis.

The 2010 winner will be named Sunday afternoon at a banquet in Brooklyn Park.
