A missing bear cub whose birth and early days were followed by millions of viewers over the Internet may have turned up alive after going missing over the weekend.

Lynn Rogers and other researchers with the North American Bear Center in Ely set up a "den cam" this winter so viewers could follow the pregnancy of Lily, a wild black bear that gave birth to Hope Jan. 22.

Hope hadn't been seen since Friday, when she and Lily climbed a pine tree to rest. Later Friday, Lily wandered more than two miles away. By the time Lily returned to the tree Sunday, Hope was gone.

But Rogers told the Duluth News Tribune a homeowner near the tree where Hope was last seen saw a lone cub in their yard Monday afternoon. It ran into the woods when approached.

Rogers says they think it's Hope, and researchers were out looking for her Tuesday evening.
