Judge in Hauser case honored for his work

The judge who oversaw last year's case involving a Sleepy Eye boy who did want to receive chemotherapy to treat his cancer has been honored for his work.

Brown County District Judge John Rodenberg received the Rosalie E. Wahl Judicial Award of Excellence for his "outstanding efforts of public service." The honor was presented last month and announced by the state judicial branch Wednesday.

In a statement, the judicial branch says Rodenberg is a highly regarded judge and dedicated to improving the justice system.

Court of Appeals Judge Terri Stoneburner nominated Rodenberg, saying that in the Daniel Hauser case, he showed compassion for the family and conducted a calm court process that was in Daniel's best interest.

Daniel ended up receiving conventional treatment and his cancer is in remission.
