The Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis is moving closer to announcing a reorganization plan that will merge some parishes and probably close buildings.
The archdiocese says a task force has completed the information-gathering phase of the plan and presented its recommendations to Archbishop John C. Nienstedt.
The archdiocese says Thursday that Nienstedt's decision for the reorganization of the archdiocese will be announced during weekend Masses on Oct. 16-17.
The archdiocese is facing a shortage of priests and it says it has too many parishes and schools outside areas of high population growth.
While nothing is decided, the group says some parishes and schools will merge and its likely that some buildings will close.
