Protestors camp out at White Earth Reservation

A group of 50 to 60 peaceful protesters are camped out around the headquarters of the White Earth Indian Reservation in northwestern Minnesota.

Becker County Sheriff Tim Gordon says he met with the protesters Monday night. He says they are upset with the current tribal government, but haven't tried to take over the building and tribal business is going on as usual.

He says Monday was the third day of the protest. It heated up Monday evening when protesters placed branches across the roads around the building. Gordon says traffic has slowed, but not stopped.

White Earth Chairwoman Erma J. Vizenor is facing a recall petition alleging illegal actions in the tribal criminal justice system. She has told the Detroit Lakes Tribune that the allegations are without merit.
