The Republican Party is asking county attorneys across Minnesota to investigate a conservative group's allegations that ineligible felons illegally voted or registered to vote in 2008.
GOP Chairman Tony Sutton sent a letter to 87 county prosecutors on Thursday to request formal investigations.
Prosecutors in the state's two largest counties, Hennepin and Ramsey, are already probing the allegations and other complaints about alleged voter fraud by felons. An official in the Ramsey County Attorney's office said earlier this week that 28 people have been charged.
The 2008 Senate race between Democrat Al Franken and Republican Norm Coleman led to a recount and a court case before Franken came out on top last year.
