A Minnesota soldier killed in Iraq in 2008 and another missing in action since 1968 and presumed dead will be honored at a State Capitol ceremony.
Specialist Greg Rundell of North St. Paul was killed by a sniper in March 2008 while manning a guard tower at a base just north of Baghdad. Staff Sgt. Lyle Mackadanz of Hutchinson went missing after his helicopter disappeared during the Vietnam War in 1968.
An Honor and Remember Flag will be presented to the families of both men at the ceremony scheduled for Thursday at 10 a.m. on the Capitol's Upper Mall. George Lutz developed the design for the flag after his son, Tony, was killed in Iraq in 2005 and is now on a 50-state tour to present them to honor U.S. soldiers killed in action.
