Emmer tells farmers he will cut agriculture regulation

Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer told farmers in Moorhead on Monday that he will reduce regulations on their industry if elected.

Emmer held a round table discussion with a half dozen farmers at a Moorhead restaurant. He told them the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and the Department of Natural Resources should have no regulatory control over farming.

"Make sure that is part of the Department of Agriculture as opposed to having all kinds of different agencies that are run for a different purpose frankly layering their regulatory authority and their enforcement authority on top of each other," Emmer said.

Emmer has talked about cutting the number of state departments and agencies, although he has yet to release any specifics. Emmer's campaign announced on Monday it has raised $785,000 dollars so far this year.
