A federal appeals court has affirmed a jury's decision that a Minneapolis police officer did not use excessive force when he shot a fleeing teenager eight times.
The survivors of 19-year-old Fong Lee sued the city and Officer Jason Anderson after the 2006 shooting outside a Minneapolis elementary school. A gun was found near Lee's body.
His family contended that security video showed that Lee was unarmed, and argued that the officer planted the gun. But Andersen and a state trooper both testified they saw Lee carrying a gun, and that he refused orders to drop it.
In a ruling Thursday, the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said the evidence supported the jury's verdict and that the family got a fair trial.
