Minn. collects more taxes than expected in August

Minnesota taxes continued to come in stronger than expected in August.

The state's Management and Budget agency said Friday that tax collectors took in nearly $19 million more than projected for the month. That beat the estimates by 1.7 percent as corporate income taxes topped expectations.

State revenues totaled $1.08 billion for the month.

Minnesota now has nearly $60 million more in revenue than its own estimates anticipated for the fiscal year that started in July.

The numbers are only a partial measure of the state's financial health because they don't include an update on spending. The full picture of the state's finances won't be clear until a full budget forecast in late November.
