Most of the Heartland State Trail between Walker and Cass Lake will temporarily close for reconstruction of several segments along the trail in north-central Minnesota.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says paving work likely continue through Oct. 15. Crews will remove old cracked and heaved pavement and replace it with new blacktop. Rehab work on two trestles and replacing the bridge over the Crow Wing River in Akeley will continue.
Because of the amount of work spread out between Walker and Cass Lake, the DNR says most of that portion of trail will essentially be closed to bicyclists and pedestrians for the rest of the season.
The Heartland State Trail is a 49-mile, multiple use trail between Park Rapids and Cass Lake.
