A Freeport artist is the winner of Minnesota's 2011 pheasant stamp competition.
Scot Storm painted the winning design of a pheasant rooster and hen in flight. It was chosen from among 19 entries in the contest sponsored by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. Donald Blakney, of Princeton, took second place and Tim Turenne, of Richfield, took third.
The $7.50 pheasant stamp is required of all Minnesota pheasant hunters ages 18 through 64. Stamp sales generate money for habitat enhancement in Minnesota's pheasant range.
The winners don't get cash prizes, but they retain the right to reproduce the work, typically as limited edition prints.
The 2011 Pheasant Stamp goes on sale next March.
