The widow of a fallen North St. Paul police officer has successfully convinced the city council to reconsider a policy that prohibits officers from wearing memorial pins for more than a year.
Rich Crittenden was shot in the head on Sept. 7, 2009 while on duty.
Chief Tom Lauth had given a special order allowing officers to wear a memorial pin, with Crittenden's name and badge number, until the year anniversary.
Crittenden's widow, Christine, tells the St. Paul Pioneer Press that officers want to continue wearing the pins but fear retaliation if they challenge the policy.
