FBI, police host public safety day for deaf kids

More than 300 deaf and hard-of-hearing students will get a chance to interact with police and learn valuable safety lessons at an educational session set aside just for them.

The FBI in Minneapolis, the Minneapolis Police Department, and others are hosting the educational safety fair on Friday.

FBI special agent Kyle Loven says it's a way to reach out to the deaf community, and let people know that law enforcement is there for them. He says the event is "the right thing to do."

The day is filled with activities. Students from kindergarten through 5th grade will learn about ways to prevent bullying. Older students will learn about Internet safety. The students will also get to see fingerprint dusting and search dog demonstrations, and interact with horses from the mounted police patrol.
