Wildlife managers have come up with a plan for putting more ducks in Minnesota skies.
The plan released Monday by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources would seek to do that by focusing on the health of 1,800 shallow lakes across the state.
DNR Wildlife Section Chief Dennis Simon says the plan emphasizes improving the quality of waterfowl habitat on shallow lakes that are on or next to public lands and waters.
Nicole Hansel-Welch, the DNR's shallow lakes supervisor and primary author of the plan, says the approach builds on recent successes on Buffalo Lake in Waseca County, Round Lake in Murray County and Lake Maria in Murray County.
