A film documentary about Africa's troubled Darfur region that was co-produced by Shane Bauer, the Minnesota native now captive in Iran, is getting a Minneapolis showing.
"Songs of Enemies and Deserts" will play at 1:30 Saturday afternoon at the movie theater at St. Anthony Main. Bauer, who worked as a freelance journalist and filmmaker prior to his capture by Iranian forces along with two friends in July 2009, made the film along with fellow journalist David Martinez.
Bauer's fiancee and one-time fellow prisoner, Sarah Shourd, plans to attend the screening. She is visiting Minnesota this week to spend time with some of Bauer's family members. Iran released Shourd from captivity last month but say they will prosecutre Bauer and fellow prisoner Josh Fattal in November on charges of espionage and illegal border crossing.
