Gov. Tim Pawlenty will be in the Little Falls area this coming weekend for his eighth annual Governor's Deer Hunting Opener.
The festivities start Friday, the day before Minnesota's firearms deer season opens.
Because of the Little Falls community's close ties to Camp Ripley, this year's event will feature special recognition for Minnesota's servicemen and women. Friday's "Big Buck" Luncheon, which is open to the public, and several other events Friday will be held at Camp Ripley.
This will be the last opener for Pawlenty as governor. He leaves office in January. He launched the series in 2003. The past seven have raised thousands of dollars for wildlife habitat and conservation projects in Minnesota.
