Data diving: Minnesota tuition above national average

There is a ton of data on higher education out there, so much that it can be tough to make sense of it all. So, consider this the first in a regular series of dispatches highlighting the numbers in a way that is, hopefully, digestible and relevant to Minnesota. Over time we hope it adds up to a comprehensive portrait of the higher education system in the state.

We'll use the most up to date information we can find, although like so much research data it may be a year or two old. We'll make an attempt to update with new data when possible.

This data comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, part of the U.S. Department of Education, and a great source for all kinds of education-related information.

It shows that, at $14,188 per year, average in-state undergraduate tuition, fees, room and board in Minnesota ranked 16th in the nation in 2007-08, above the national average of $13,424.
