A forum at the University of Minnesota's Humphrey Institute on Thursday will look at the state of judicial elections in Minnesota.
Some fear Minnesota courts are in danger of becoming a battleground of big-money contributors and political operatives. Others counter that proposed reforms would take away the right of Minnesotans to choose their judges.
The 4 p.m. panel discussion features former Minnesota Chief Justice Eric Magnuson, who has argued for keeping partisanship out of the judiciary. It also features Greg Wersal, a GOP candidate for the Minnesota Supreme Court who has won several court battles to lift restrictions on judicial candidates.
It's sponsored by Minnesotans for Impartial Courts and the university's Center for the Study of Politics and Government.
