Minn. to get over $8.8M in conservation grants

Minnesota is getting over $8.8 million dollars in federal grants for conservation projects in the Mississippi River Basin.

The money is part of $43 million announced Monday by the Agriculture Department's Natural Resources Conservation Service for projects in 41 watersheds in 12 states designed to limit control nutrient runoff from agricultural land.

Assistant State Conservationist Tim Koehler says 10 Minnesota projects will get a share of the funding. They include projects in the middle Minnesota River watershed, as well as in the Sauk, Root and Cedar river watersheds. He says nearly $7 million will go for wetlands restoration while close to $2 million will go to farmers involved in cost-sharing projects.
