The Apple Valley Medical Clinic will pay the federal government and the state of Minnesota a total of $195,000 to settle allegations that it improperly billed Medicare and Medicaid programs for outpatient services.
The U.S. Attorney's Office announced the settlement Friday, saying the clinic would pay over $182,000 to the federal government with the rest going to the state.
The government alleged that the clinic used billing codes that resulted in higher reimbursements for outpatient services. As a result, Medicare and Medicaid programs paid more than they should have.
As part of the settlement, the clinic denies the allegations. In addition, federal and state authorities are releasing the clinic from civil and administrative claims related to these allegations.
