St. Cloud State's reorganization

I wanted to get back around to St. Cloud State President Earl Potter's presentation Friday of a plan to reorganize the university into six colleges and schools and five new centers and institutes, something the St. Cloud Times reports.

Most obvious victim: the aviation program, which, as you've read here before, has been on the chopping block for a while.

The key term seemed to be "new adjacencies" -- a buzz word, I suppose, for efficiencies gained when you put related fields under one roof.

The Times reports:

An example is the newly created School of Health & Human Services, which draws components from four of the university’s current colleges.

Potter’s model also includes a College of Liberal Arts, a College of Science & Engineering, Herberger Business School, School of Education and School of Public Affairs.

... The centers and institutes are the Institute for Innovation & Entrepreneurship, Institute for Sustainability, Institute for Global & Cultural Studies, Institute for Educational Research & Secondary Teaching and Center for Undergraduate Research & Experiential Learning.

... The reorganization model that Potter unveiled also includes a University College, College of Graduate Education and School of Professional and Continuing Studies. Those three are proposals that will be further developed during a process that is ongoing and that is designed to address administrative services, staff level positions and academic support services.
