More charges prepared against pardoned Minn. man

Prosecutors are seeking to add a dozen new felony against a Minnesota man accused of sexually assaulting a girl more than 250 times over several years.

The case of 36-year-old Jeremy Giefer, of Vernon Center, has drawn attention because he received a pardon in 2008 on his 1994 conviction of having sex with a 14-year-old girl when he was 19. They later married.

The Free Press of Mankato reports Tuesday that Assistant Blue Earth County Attorney Chris Rovney has asked Judge Bradley Walker to add the new charges to a 12-count complaint filed last month against Giefer.

Rovney said at a hearing Monday the 12 new charges don't involve any additional victims, but "more adequately reflect" the allegations made by a teen who told investigators Giefer had been sexually assaulting her since she was 9 years old.

Giefer's attorney says the alleged victim has told others that nothing happened.
