A 17-year-old who collapsed while playing a high school basketball game in western Minnesota last week is improving and will be moved to the University of Minnesota Medical Center in Minneapolis for specialized care.
The family of Zach Gabbard, of Perham, posted on his CaringBridge.org web page Sunday that that he began to show signs of responding to those around on Saturday night.
However, the family notes that Gabbard remains in critical condition.
The teen collapsed Thursday evening during a game at Dilworth-Glydon-Felton High School. A defibrillator was used on Gabbard before he was rushed to Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, N.D., for heart surgery.

There was a prayer service for Gabbard on Sunday afternoon at Calvary Lutheran Church in Perham.
