A smart phone app developed by a Minneapolis company can take parents of teen drivers along for the ride, even though they aren't physically in the car.
Eye Phone Group created an app called SIPS, which stands for Safety Information Protection System. It allows parents to monitor their child's movements and set boundaries. The parents physically set those boundaries on their cell phones and are alerted if the teen driver goes beyond the limited area. It works the same for speed limits. Parents are alerted if the speed limit is exceeded.
KARE-TV reports parents and teens must have the same brand of smart phones to use the SIPS app. The company says it's working on a version that will allow parent and teen to have different phones.
