Gov. Mark Dayton has proclaimed Thursday as Harmon Killebrew Day in Minnesota, honoring the late Minnesota Twins slugger and Hall of Famer.

In his proclamation, Dayton says Killebrew's life "should serve as an inspiration to everyone."

Killebrew died last week at age 74 following a fight with esophageal cancer. The Twins will hold a public memorial service for Killebrew at Target Field on Thursday night. His funeral was held last Friday in Arizona.
