Minnesota's state parks are offering free admission on Saturday to celebrate National Get Outdoors Day.
The Department of Natural Resources will waive the requirement for vehicle permits at all 74 state parks and recreation areas for the day.
Grand opening celebrations are planned for the new 25-mile mountain bike trail system at Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area and the new visitor center at Big Bog State Recreation Area. Oher special programs for visitors of all ages are taking place statewide, including numerous fishing programs in conjunction with Take-A-Kid Fishing Weekend.
The DNR says the goal is to introduce first-time visitors to state parks, trails, fishing piers and other public lands. In particular, National Get Outdoors Day aims to reconnect youth to the great outdoors.
