Richfield school recipe picked for national finals

A recipe developed by Richfield students is one of three finalists in first lady Michelle Obama's "Recipes for Healthy Kids" competition, a national contest to promote healthy eating among children.

The Porcupine Sliders from the South Education Center Alternative school in Richfield advanced for winning first place in the whole grains category. It will compete against a vegetable recipe and a legume dish for the grand prize at a national cook-off during the American Culinary Federation National Convention in Dallas July 25

The sliders are brown rice-covered turkey burgers. They'll be up against a vegetable bake from Joshua Cowell School in Manteca, Calif., and a Tuscan smoked turkey and bean soup from Ira B. Jones Elementary School in Asheville, N.C.
