This map depicts non-education state government wages as a portion of total wages paid in each county in 2010. Statewide, non-education state wages represent an average of 1.7 percent of all wages.
In this map, counties at or below the statewide average are shown in shades of yellow. Their economies are theoretically less subject to a shutdown. Counties above that concentration are in shades of blue. Their economic risks are greater in the event of a shutdown. The greater the concentration, the darker the color.
Wages for state government educational services are excluded because they represent University of Minnesota and MnSCU pay, and those institutions appear less vulnerable to a government shutdown.
State government educational services data is not available for Waseca County, but overall state government employment in the county is relatively small, so we assigned a value of zero for state educational services.
