A Minnesota farmer will be arraigned Wednesday on misdemeanor charges for illegally selling unpasteurized milk.
Alvin Schlangen will appear in Hennepin County District Court on four counts related to the sales of raw milk and other unpasteurized milk products.
State law permits a farmer to sell raw milk only at their farms. The state alleges Schlangen sold the product at a Minneapolis warehouse. The state searched the warehouse last March.
As well as illegal sales, Schlangen is also charged with selling unlabeled products, not having a proper license and selling adulterated or misbranded products. No illnesses have been linked to Schlangen's products.
In an email response, Schlangen said the food the state seized was being sold privately and not subject to regulation by the state.
