Rent-a-reindeer busy during the holidays

You may have heard of Dasher, Dancer, Prancer and Vixen. But the holiday season keeps Sophie, Yukon, Chestnut and Jingles on the move also.

The rent-a-reindeer are busy with Christmas parties, parades and festivals. Their owners are Bob and Sandy Kendall who raise 11 reindeer at their farm near Glencoe.

Bob Kendall says some people who encounter the animals are surprised that reindeer really do exist. The reindeer are similar to caribou and are still plentiful in the Arctic. Kendall says the reindeer love the cold weather and can get very playful when it starts to snow.

He tells WCCO-TV the reindeer lose their antlers every year - sometimes in December. That's caused a few awkward moments at Christmas gatherings, but the Kendalls are reassuring - the antlers will grow back.
