The Hennepin County attorney's office has charged a Dayton man in connection with a homicide at a downtown Minneapolis hotel.
According to the complaint, Brian Griffin, 33, was smoking methamphetamine with three other men in a room at the Millenium Hotel last weekend.
A witness said Griffin got up as if to leave the room, but pulled out a 9 mm handgun and began firing multiple shots. When police arrived, they found Jeremy Shannon of Minneapolis dead at the scene.
Police say Griffin admitted shooting Shannon and shooting at another man in the room. Griffin is charged with second degree murder and attempted second degree murder.
The killing is the city's first of 2012. There were 32 homicides in Minneapolis last year.
