Katherine Boo, author of Behind the Beautiful Forevers, joined Kerri Miller on the show Thursday. The book is an account of families living in the shantytowns of Mumbai.
Kerri asked if anyone had book recommendations related to the topic.
One caller, Wendy in Minneapolis, recommended Kiran Desai's The Inheritance of Loss, Maximum City by Suketu Mehta, and The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga.
Boo didn't read any Indian fiction to inspire her own writing; she read Robert Bolano's acclaimed novel 2666.
Do you have favorite books about India or the lives of people in poverty?
