7 ways to stave off disease

Today we talked about biobanks, genetic testing and the privacy of your DNA.

Art Caplan, the director of the Center for Bioethics at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, was one of our guests. He says that we will see an increase in the availability of genetics tests. Expect your general practitioner to have genetic testing in their clinic, expect infant's DNA to be mapped at birth, expect to be confused by the information you learn from your genetic sequencing.

Caplan's advice if you do find you have a genetic marker for a disease?

"For a lot of things that are detected, here's what you need to do: lose weight, sleep more, don't drink too much, don't be stressed, get some excercise, wear a helmet, wear your seatbelt."

Sounds like what I should be doing already. I'm going to bed early tonight.
