A company called Twin Metals is launching an effort to build Minnesota's biggest underground mine ever. It's become known as the Nokomis project, and it would be located near the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, where Twin Metals has the mineral rights to land just southeast of Ely.

The mine could dig up to 80,000 tons of copper and other valuable metals per day, and employ 1000 people.

Cathy Wurzer talks about the project with Jim Miller, an associate professor of geological sciences at the University of Minnesota-Duluth.
