The Minnesota Twins open their 2012 home season Monday afternoon at Target Field against the Los Angeles Angels.
The opening day festivities kick off at noon with a rally in the IDS center's Crystal Court. Gates at the ballpark open at 1 p.m, and team spokesman Kevin Smith says some familiar faces will be at each gate to welcome fans.
"We've got members of Kirby Puckett's family opening the Gate 34," team spokesman Kevin ASmith said. "Mr. Carew will be opening his gate at Gate 29. Kent Hrbek at Gate 14. Tony Oliva at his gate, number 6. And members of Harmon Killibrew's family at Gate 3."
The first pitch from starter Nick Blackburn is scheduled for 3:10 p.m. The Twins had the worst record in the American League last year.
Twins fans will also see several new players, including veteran short stop Jamey Carroll and outfielder Josh Willingham. And for the first time in several years, fans will not see Michael Cuddyer and Jason Kubel -- both are playing for other teams this year.
"The best pieces of news we have are healthy Justin Morneau and healthy Joe Mauer, Smith said. "That's going to be big coming into April here in 2012. And of course, Nick Blackburn will be the opening day starter at Target Field."
