Minn. Civil War soldier to be honored with marker

A Civil War soldier from Minnesota will be honored with a marker placed on his grave.

Edgar Lewis was buried in a Hewitt cemetery without a marker when he died 93 years ago. Lewis left instructions to be buried in the same cemetery as his wife and daughter but did not have any family left in the area. As a veteran, he is entitled to a marker paid with government funds.

His great-granddaughter, Marian Shelby of Salt Lake City, contacted Fergus Falls Monument to see if they could order the marker.

Lewis is not just getting a marker — he will be remembered in a Civil War re-enactment Saturday.

KBRF-AM reports Lewis joined the Union Army in 1862. He was wounded in battle in Arkansas and died in 1919.
