The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs is hosting Memorial Day events beginning Sunday at the State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls and continuing at Veterans Homes around the state.

Unlike Veterans Day, which honors all U.S. Military Veterans, Memorial Day was founded to honor those who have died in military service to the nation.

Spokeswoman Beth Kocian says the public is invited to attend Memorial Day events to remember Minnesota's veterans.

"The State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls -- we have a lot of people show up to that," Kocian says. "It's been going on for years, and it's a good place to have a memorial service."

The event at the State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls begins at 1:30 p.m Sunday. The keynote speaker will be Maj. Gen. Richard Nash, adjutant general of the Minnesota National Guard.
