MPR meteorologist Bill Endersen writes:
While the main thunderstorm activity this afternoon has been from Kansas through eastern Nebraska and into northwestern Iowa, those storms are heading into southwestern Minnesota.
Outside of this organized activity, widely scattered storms have been popping in parts of the southern half of Minnesota. These storms are likely to develop into larger clusters of strong and possibly severe thunderstorms that will continue past sunset as a triggering cold front pushes eastward against the muggy air.
Shortly after 6 p.m. the National Weather Service issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for much of Minnesota south of Bemidji and for the northwestern corner of Wisconsin until 1 a.m. The southeastern corner of Minnesota is not included in a watch at this time.
Tomorrow we will enjoy refreshing air behind the cold front. Highs should be mainly in the 70s with low humidity.
