A group backing a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage in Minnesota says it has raised more than a quarter-million dollars so far this year.
The Minnesota Family Council on Tuesday released a finance report outlining contributions and other income of more than $289,000 from Jan. 1 through July 10 for its Marriage Protection Fund.
The report also details contributions of $150,000 by the fund to Minnesota for Marriage, the coalition supporting the amendment on the November ballot.
Through its Marriage Protection Fund, the Minnesota Family Council reports spending another $139,167 on its own efforts to organize churches across Minnesota in support of the amendment.
Minnesota Family Council CEO John Helmberger says the group is "very pleased with the enthusiastic response" of churches of all sizes and across denominational lines.
