Today, the Minnesota Office of Higher Education will be previewing its new video (trailer above), "Paying for College: How Minnesota Families Make It Happen."

(Considering my previous post, I think I'll be paying special attention.)

NEW VIDEO DEMYSTIFIES PAYING FOR COLLEGE

Start early, don’t let “sticker prices” scare you, and always fill out the Free Application for Financial Aid (FAFSA) - these are just some of the messages students and families will learn by watching a new video, “Paying for College: How Minnesota Families Make It Happen”.

The video is a joint venture of the Minnesota Office of Higher Education (OHE), the Minnesota Private College Council (MPCC), TPT and Travelers. Additional funding was also provided by The Saint Paul Foundation and The Council of Independent Colleges.

“We know that increased levels of postsecondary education attainment are more important than ever in filling the jobs of the future, and yet many Minnesota students and families believe it is out of reach,” said Larry Pogemiller, OHE director. “This video is filled with practical advice from experts in the field, as well as a first-hand story from one Minnesota family on how they are making the dream of higher education come true for their daughters.”

The broadcast premiers on:

  • Sunday, November 11 at 8:00 p.m. on tpt MN

  • Sunday, November 18 at 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on tpt MN

  • Sunday, November 18 at noon on tpt LIFE

In addition to the 30-minute core program, 10-minutes shorts have been produced for specific audiences; one on how families can afford private non-profit colleges, one for first-generation students, and others in Somali, Hmong and Spanish. Each short addresses the unique needs of the intended audience.

Following these broadcasts, the videos can be viewed on the OHE and MPCC websites at: www.getreadyforcollege.org and www.mnprivatecolleges.org/paying.

Information is also available on these websites on how to obtain a copy of the dvd, free of charge. Check back often for updates.

“We want Minnesota families to know that higher education is an important investment, and armed with the right information, is both attainable and affordable,” said Pogemiller. “This video provides the knowledge and tools necessary to help families pursue this important goal.”
