On Christmas Eve, I posted excerpts from a Hennepin County complaint against a man who allegedly told police he was a gang member and who police say was in possession of three "assault rifles" and a handgun.

I also came across another Hennepin County complaint involving a so-called assault weapon. According to the complaint, on Christmas Eve, Minneapolis police responded to a "male with assault rifle pounding on front door," call on the 2500 block of Pillsbury Ave. S. Police say they found 22-year-old Eric Michael Campion with "an AR-15 assault rifle next to him". An officer searched his backpack and, according to the complaint, found "suspected methamphetamine, a loaded rifle magazine, a loaded Glock magazine and several loose rounds."

Police say Campion told them he took his rifle outside because "he was going down to help the police and he couldn't find his pistol." Police also say Campion admitted to "dabbling" with methamphetamine. Campion was charged with an enhanced drug possession charge because he was also carrying a firearm. A Hennepin County spokesman says Campion's mental competency will be evaluated during a Rule 20 examination.

Campion's attorney, Eric Nelson - the same Eric Nelson who is representing Amy Senser - says he will not comment on the case at this time.
