1 hurt in Mpls. fire; building to be razed

One person suffered minor injuries from smoke inhalation after a morning fire at an eight-unit condo building in Uptown Minneapolis, authorities said.

Firefighters have accounted for all the other residents and the fire had been contained, Minneapolis Fire Marshal Perry Ebner said.

The three-story building is on West Lake Street between Irving and Humboldt avenues. Two blocks on Lake Street and two blocks on Irving Avenue were closed to traffic while crews were fighting the fire, city officials said.

Crews were still working on hot spots Friday afternoon, but Ebner said they expected to be able to allow a demolition crew to take down the building by the end of the day.

The fire was reported shortly after 8 a.m. and threatened the Dunn Bros. coffee shop next door. Flames could be seen through the windows on the first and second floors of the building when crews arrived.

The fire's cause is still under investigation, but authorities have some good leads and expected to be able to make conclusions in the coming days, Ebner said.
