Twins statues at Target Field get sweaters

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Just in time for the state's latest cold snap, a handful of statues of classic Minnesota Twins players outside Target Field will be outfitted with custom-knit sweaters, hats and scarves.

A team spokesman says statues of Rod Carew, Kent Hrbek and Tony Oliva get their knitted goods Sunday afternoon. They were made by members of the Twin Cities' active knitting community, and are adorned with the TwinsFest 2013 logo to help publicize that annual event the following weekend.

The timing looks to be convenient. Forecasts call for Twin Cities highs on Sunday in the single digits, with lows dipping below zero.

The knitting club is also donating yards of yarn to the Twin Cities Boys and Girls Club, and members have volunteered to teach knitting classes at metro area clubs.
