A Puerto Rican medical and dental provider has joined the Mayo Clinic as the newest member of its care network.
San Juan-based Clinica Salus is the first health system in the Caribbean to join Mayo's care network. It provides services to patients at loctions in San Juan and around the island.
Bob Brigham, chief administrative officer for Mayo Clinic's Florida campus, said under the new partnership, Salus physicians will have access to Mayo Clinic specialists and medical information closer to home.
"Our physicians have networked with their physicians, historically. And we've referred patients back and forth, between the organizations for a number of years," Brigham said. "This is a chance to build and formalize on that relationship."
The addition expands on Mayo's already-growing Care Network, which launched in 2011. The network now has member organizations based in ten state: Arizona, Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, New Hampshire and North Dakota.
"The relationship with the Mayo Clinic Care Network that we proudly announce today is very significant for the future of integrated and collaborative health care services industry in Puerto Rico," Salus CEO Marina Diaz said in a statement. "It confirms our commitment to transform our medical practice into a collaborative model focused on caring for our patients."
