Verso Paper Corp. plans to sell the closed Sartell paper mill to AIM Development (USA) LLC, according to a company statement released Tuesday.
The brief statement does not say whether the mill's new owner would reopen the site or sell off its assets. However, AIM Development (USA) LLC appears to be part of American Iron & Metal Company, Inc., a company headquartered in Canada that specializes in scrap metal recovery and recycling.
A spokesperson for Verso Paper did not return a call seeking comment. Sartell city administrator Patti Gartland said Verso informed the city of the sale today but did not provide any details.
"We have got no information as to what AIM Development has planned or intended or what their interest was for purchasing it," Gartland said.
The mill was badly damaged in a May 2012 fire and has been closed ever since. In August, Verso announced that it would not reopen the plant.
Verso expects to close the sale in the first quarter of 2013, according to today's statement.
AIM Development (USA) LLC could not be reached for immediate comment.
