Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak and other mayors from cities around the country are featured in a new public service announcement released today by Mayors Against Illegal Guns. The minute-and-a-half long video is part of the group's latest push for new gun laws, including universal background checks and bans on high capacity ammunition magazines.
A handful of national polls -- as well as a local survey -- show widespread public support for universal background checks. However, as MPR News' Tom Scheck reported this week, some elected officials at the Capitol - both Democrat and Republican -- aren't crazy about passing a law requiring background checks for most private firearms sales.
