Work has begun on the new span, which will connect Minnesota and Wisconsin and replace the 80-year-old Stillwater Lift Bridge.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation says crews have put in place a construction staging area on the Minnesota banks of the St. Croix River. Starting this month, workers will construct dock walls to support equipment access for construction of bridge foundations and install steel sheet panels to provide docking facilities for barges.
Crews are also expected to clear property adjacent to Minnesota Highway 95 in Oak Park Heights.
